A PENSIONER died when he mistakenly drank a bottle of methadone after he was discharged from hospital. Health chiefs are investigating how Harold Moody, 81, was able to leave hospital with two bottles of methadone which had been originally prescribed to a drug addict.

THE community has joined together to fight to save four threatened Grimsby schools. As reported, dwindling student numbers at Whitgift secondary school and feeder primary schools, Littlecoates, Willows and Great Coates, have left them facing closure in a major shake-up.

PLANS have been approved for an eco-friendly burial ground. Musicians Steve Clayton and Geraldine Sinkie have been given planning approval to open the natural burial ground in a 12-acre paddock in North Kelsey.
HOME advantage paid off for Scunthorpe 3rds as they secured their third win in succession with an emphatic 59-7 victory over Old Crossleyans 2nds at Heslam Park. It took the Greens 10 minutes to settle into their rhythm before they opened the scoring through Mick Coult, who latched on to Nay Turner after a rolling maul to power over in the corner for a 5-0 lead.
Louth and Barton Forced to Replay
LOUTH Town's FA Vase first round replay with Barton Town was abandoned at the start of the second half following a fire in one of the floodlight pylons. Louth were leading 2-1 at the time. The game has been rescheduled for Tuesday, October 12 (7.45pm).
Pupils' Red Carpet Fun at Tv Premiere ; Students Write and Star in Episode of Waterloo Road
PUPILS from Whitgift School were given the red carpet treatment, as they attended the premiere of their very own episode of Waterloo Road. As reported, year ten and 11 pupils teamed up with scriptwriters from Shed Productions - which makes the hit BBC One show - to pen and star in an episode based on what it is like to be the new kid in school.
Cameron Calling for Brits to 'Pull Together' ; the World in Brief [Edition 2]
DAVID Cameron has called on Britons to "pull together" to get the country's economy back on track, promising that within a few years, the sacrifices they make will deliver financial rewards. And he urged all citizens to get involved in action to improve their communities and build a "big society", telling them: "Your country needs you."
COUNCIL bosses have vowed to press ahead with plans for more than 12,000 homes, even though they are still awaiting crucial Government guidance. Officials are still waiting for new guidance from the Gosvernment on traveller sites which could have forced them to hold up major new plans for new homes in the region.

I'm Pleased - but I Want a Lot More Goals
I DON'T like to tempt fate but things are going well for me personally on the pitch so far. I'm really pleased with my form and another two goals last weekend.
SEVERAL people have suggested either Clive Mendonca or Kevin Drinkell reached double figures earlier than Connell. Unless anyone can show that Mendonca, Drinkell or anyone else scored 10 goals in Town's first 13 league games or less, I would suggest the last person to get to double figures earlier in a season than Alan Connell was Matt Tees, with 10 goals in the first 12 games of GTFC's 1971-72 Division Four League Championship winning season.
GRIMSBY-born hockey ace Glenn Kirkham helped England get their Commonwealth Games campaign off to a solid start as they brushed aside minnows Trinidad & Tobago. Simon Mantell found the net twice while Ashley Jackson and Alastair Brogdon also got on the scoresheet as England opened up with a solid, if unspectacular, win in Delhi.
