Rise in Used Car Sales Proves Old Ones Are the Best
USED car sales are up three per cent compared with the same period last year, according to new figures from Experian. A total of 1,801,258 used cars were sold through dealers in the third quarter of the year, an increase of 1.1 per cent over the previous quarter.
In niche terms, the CLS has been a success for Mercedes, with a second -generation car sporting the same, attractive sweeping profile as its predecessor. And while much appears familiar, there's also been plenty of change. A greater focus on cabin refinement, increased engine efficiency and a closer visual connection with the SLS supercar are just some of the highlights.
It's certainly going to be a happy new year for Thurlby Motors. The well-known Vauxhall dealer, with showrooms in Alford, Boston and Louth, has now taken over the franchise for Nissan, at the former Peacock And Binnington site, in Grimsby Road, Louth. Managing director Chris Roberts is excited at the prospect of having two such major marques under the Thurlby umbrella.
To be frank, I never fully understood why so many critics railed at the Porsche Cayenne. From the outset, I felt confident it was a superb vehicle. Its off-road potential was far greater than the vast majority of owners would ever appreciate (and better than a Range Rover), while its on-road manners were exemplary and it set new standards for high performance in the category, leading to sportier versions of the BMW X5 and the later X6 and also the development of the Range Rover Sport.
People carriers - you either love them or hate them, but whatever your opinion, the fact remains that a lot of families can't do without them. If you fit into the "must have one" category, then you could do far worse than to buy Volkswagen's latest compact MPV, which is a huge improvement on the model it replaces.
Partisan support of a brand is fine to a point. I have always liked Mazda cars. My association with the brand has grown into competing and winning several long-distance and fuel economy events with its products. The company's design stance has always been very pleasing to my eyes and I have always believed that the company has tried just a little bit harder than many of its rivals to improve its proposition and deliver ultra-reliable, driver-focussed and fascinating models.
Most of the ingredients that make a successful superbike are self evident: plenty of horsepower, light weight, agile handling, high quality suspension and state-of-the-art brakes ... failure to deliver with any one of these is an instant deal breaker at motorcycling's take-no-prisoners performance peak. These days you're an also-ran too if you don't back up the basics with a comprehensive electronics package which at the very least offers a track-ready traction control system.
Used-car trading expert Exchange And Mart has offered a range of advice for car-buyers and sellers to help them avoid falling foul of unscrupulous traders. The company has said a rising number of used-car buyers are being scammed by advertisements for vehicles that don't exist and car- sellers are being frequently targeted by "buyers" who have no intention of paying for a vehicle.
TOYOTA is offering savings of up to Pounds 1,700 on selected Yaris models on orders placed before March 31. For those looking for a great deal, this is the time of the year to bag a bargain. And there's nowhere better to bag a bargain then in one of the many car showrooms around the region. Whether you are looking for a new family runabout, are thinking of upgrading to a 4x4, people carrier or luxury saloon, or are attracted to the idea of a sporty two-seater, our region has just the dealer for you.
