The weather was fine but with a cool edge to the wind. After two overnight frosts in the previous days, catching was not easy. The catches were made up mostly of tench, bream, ide and perch, with the odd carp. The winner, Dave Leach, fished off peg 17 and had 15-1, including a 3-1 crucian carp. On peg 22, Paul Wright took second with 11-7. The section winners were Joe Goulding, on peg 20 with 10-10, and Bob Fowler, on peg 26 with 4-1. The golden peg and 'catch the koi' were not won so Pounds 70 and Pounds 100 are carried over to next week's match. Draw 9am, fishing 10am-4pm, entry Pounds 12, pools optional. All junior anglers aged 16 and under - the junior opens re-start on April 16, draw 8.30am, fishing 9.30-2pm, entry Pounds 5. WILLOW SPRINGS, MESSINGHAM: Re- opened on March 21 so no reports at the time of writing, but this fishery is another of recent construction which started off by providing mixed results, mostly containing silver fish until the carp settled in as the water plants began to establish themselves. These carp have recently found they like the anti-cormorant cover around the island, and some really impressive weights have been recorded by the match-men over the past season, which augurs well.
APP-FROD ANGLING CLUB: After a recent restock of skimmers and bream, the pond is fishing well, with nets of 20-30lb common. Robin White caught 70lb, while Alan Gregory netted 50lb when pleasure fishing last week. YADDLETHORPE PONDS: Still in the process of warming up and water levels are still a little high, but the nearest ponds to the car-park are fishing well for the anglers willing to use fine tackle and experiment with depth and shot patterns of both pole and waggler rigs. Roach, skimmers and bream to pinkies on the fussy days, with red maggot, brandlings and pellets on the better days. The only carp responding are fish to around 8lb, but some anglers are claiming snap-off to bigger fish.See the full content of this document
