GRIMSBY Town Football Club has paid former manager Mike Newell Pounds 5,000 in compensation in an out-of-court settlement following his sacking. Mr Newell had issued a writ against the club, claiming Pounds 53,845.61 for wrongful dismissal and/or breach of contract. He also made a series of strong allegations against chairman John Fenty and others at the club. He was sacked on Sunday, October 18, just over a year into his tenure and a day after Town's 2-0 League Two defeat to Rochdale. Reporter PAUL SMITH met with Mr Fenty to find out more about the allegations.

Q: Are you happy this has now been settled? Mr Fenty: "Obviously, I am really pleased to see the back of it. It was a claim that came out of the blue when you think about how Mike left the club and interviews he gave subsequently in the Grimsby Telegraph and on the radio.
