Summary
WHEN are the courts going to stop sending the message to rude, abusive and provocative pre-teen, youths and teenagers that they can behave as they like without having to face up to any consequences arising from their behaviour towards the public in general? Most of these impudent kids are only too well aware of the limitations imposed on the adults that are on the receiving end of the abuse and bad language that is hurled at them should anyone dare to try to pull them to order. They know fine well that there is no answer to the challenge of "What yer gonna do about it?", the usual response to "I'll call the police" is go on then, and to disappear around the nearest corner.
While physical retaliation cannot be condoned, in my opinion the courts could do a lot more in the way of rebuking these youths and making their parents more aware of their responsibilities for their child's behaviour. The recent case of the man who laid his hands on the youths who were using Scartho Medical Centre as a playground is a case in point and a lot of people will find a degree of sympathy for the man who momentarily lost his temper, especially as there was no injury inflicted on these abusive youths.See the full content of this document
