If Mr Dakin Really Believes That, He Should Step Down ; Letters

Summary

I have long despaired at some of the statements our politicians come out with when blinded by party politics. In this so-called democracy of ours, we vote them in, then they go to Parliament and do as they are told by their party masters. Don't they realise that some of the statements they make are a clear insult to the intelligence of the electorate? A very clear example of this was the statement made by Nic Dakin in the Scunthorpe Telegraph dated Nov 17. "This Conservative Government's policies have led to more than a million young people being unemployed." I would suggest that if Mr Dakin really believes that, then he should step down. What a ridiculous thing to say.

Unless you have been living on Mars for the last 20 years, you will know that these young people have grown up in a culture nurtured by Labour. Their knowledge, skills and work ethic were all developed under a Labour government. When they saw that their education and welfare systems were actively encouraging young people to 'not bother' with taking up the jobs which were available at the time, what did Labour do? They actively encouraged people to come from abroad to settle here and take up hundreds of thousands of jobs, which are now of course, no longer available. In doing so, they betrayed a generation of young people.
