With skipper Richard Antcliffe unable to get a flight back from Barbados, vice-captain Paul Taylor led the side. Bourne won the toss and not surprisingly chose to bowl first on a green Augusta Street pitch. Pakistan professional Fahad Masood opened the bowling and, keeping a full length, he got some movement.

Masood clean bowled Lee Charlton in the first over but then John Maddock (22) and Neil Snell (18) put on 33 for the second wicket. Perera looked dangerous as he raced to 43 from 51 balls, hitting six fours and pulling a short ball from Charlie Hopkins for six.
