AS RAF Grimsby, the airfield which straddled the parish boundary of Waltham and Holton-le-Clay won fame as the home of 100 Squadron in the bomber campaign against Germany.

But it began life in a much less martial mood in July 1939 when it was officially opened as Grimsby's rather grandiose-sounding Municipal Airport.
