In for a Severe Shock ; Viewpoint

Summary

FORMER US president Harry Trueman uttered the now well-known saying, "If you can't stand the heat, get out of the kitchen".

Public sector workers, instead of complaining, should try getting out of the kitchen and join the private sector, which offers the following advantages: ? Longer working hours ? Little or no breaks while at work ? Job for job, lower pay ? Fewer holidays ? Little allowance for sick leave ? Little or no allowance for compassionate leave ? Little or no paternal leave ? Restricted maternity leave ? Little or no pension ? No government help with pensions - unlike public sector pensions, which will receive a Pounds 32 billion subsidy (some of my money) this year. ? Extremely poor pension from annuities - especially if inflation proofing is requested ? Very uncertain job security ? Hard to get a job after 60 - employers prefer young, lower-paid staff. ? In many cases, women aged 20 to 40 not being wanted - they might become pregnant Public sector workers are swimming in a warm water pool. If they believe the water in the private sector pool is warm, let them jump in - they will be in for a very severe shock.
