Summary
FANS of Richmal Crompton's wonderful Just William must be delighted to know that the boy is getting a new life in the current Children's Classics book collection in the Grimsby Telegraph - a splendid contribution to an attractive aspect of literature that will always be treasured.
I am, however, puzzled by the accompanying illustration of what is obviously intended to be the cheeky chappy, looking like a girl in modern clothing, in long trousers (no, no!) and cap back to front... really, this surely is not meant to be William Brown of the book, is it? The illustration seems to me to be totally inappropriate, misleading and grossly uncalled for. For heaven's sake why? I'm frantic with worry for my favourite character of happy days 50 years ago.
