ON January 3, 2000, Grimsby Town kicked off the new millennium with a 2-2 home draw with Sheffield United in the second-tier of English football looking towards the future and a bid to establish themselves as a team on the way up after their double Wembley triumph just 18 months earlier.

Ten years on and, despite a third Wembley visit and a play-off final in Cardiff in between, the Mariners drew at home to Bury to remain embedded in the bottom two of the basement division and in danger of a Football League exit.
