WORK on the Pounds 8-million revamp of Guildford Street has ground to a halt - following a stand-off between the council and the street's last remaining resident.

As reported, 100 homes on the street - which was described as one of Grimsby's most deprived - are being demolished to make way for 70 to 80 new ones as part of the Fresh Start East Marsh renewal programme.
