Summary


CONTROVERSY has again bubbled up over a project that has allowed farmland at Donna Nook to be forfeited for a coastal "defence" strategy. Although East Lindsey planners at first opposed the Environment Agency's realignment initiative, they subsequently performed a U-turn and approved it, much to the anger of many local residents.

At a full meeting of the district council, protester Alwyn Drewery expressed his outrage at the conduct of councillors during a site visit, when they allowed themselves to be chauffeured by Birse Civils, a firm bidding to win a Pounds 5.4 million groundworks contract from the applicants. In a presentation to the council, Mr Drewery demanded to know why "senior management of Birse were allowed in the vehicles with district councillors".
