Summary
HE Z-car phenomenon goes back to the early-1970s, when the original 240Z was introduced. In many ways, so typical of Japanese cars of that era, it aped the stunning style of the Jaguar E-Type, even though its true roots lay somewhat further back in Austin- Healey territory of the late-1950s. Known as a 'hairy-chested' sportscar, the installation of a revvy but smooth straight-six petrol engine driving the rear wheels, through a slick five-speed manual gearbox, gave the car a potentially fearsome reputation.
The truth was, the 240Z's handling was excellent for the period and demonstrated that the Japanese brands were definitely on the march into Europe and North America.See the full content of this document
